Frequently asked questions.

  • Parking is all-street parking, so the earlier you arrive, the closer you will be. We love our Bar Beach residents and ask that when you are finding a park, you are mindful that you do not block driveways, laneways and private residences. There will be some road closures directly around the park, but otherwise, there will be plenty of parking.

Increased mobility parking can be accessed along Memorial Drive from the road blockage on the corner of Memorial Drive and Kilgour Ave. To access mobility parking, please make sure you have your Mobility Parking permit and Australian Disability Parking permit clearly displayed on your vehicle as per NSW Government guidelines. Limited parking spaces are available.

    Consider Alternate Transport

Why not consider leaving your car at home and taking public transport or ride your bike to Carols by the Beach - we’ve got you covered with convenient bike racks located right on-site! Whether you’re hopping on a bus or pedalling in from nearby, getting to the beachside festivities has never been easier (or greener). Make your journey part of the experience!

  • Besides your Christmas spirit, pack a picnic (or you can grab food from the food vans), bring your friends, chairs, blankets and everything you need to make yourselves comfortable (perhaps a lounge is going a bit far…).

  • The show must go on! Unless it is a major downpour, we will be pressing on. Bring some wet weather ponchos and perhaps a small pop up beach tent. But seriously, if we need to cancel the event we will let you know on all our social media platforms!

  • The event is FREE! There will be food, drinks, glow sticks, LED candles and LED foam glow sticks available for purchase throughout the evening. While all our kids activities are free, should you wish to make a gold coin donation, all funds raised will go to Compassion Australia Unsponsored Children Fund.

  • Yes, there will be a number of temporary portaloos set up around Empire Park, in addition to the existing Empire Park amenities and across the road at Bar Beach Pavilion, where wheelchair accessible toilets can be located.

  • You are more than welcome to bring along your dog, however, please be mindful of others around you.

Your pet must be on a leash at all times and be comfortable with large crowds and fireworks.

  • As per the Newcastle City Council guidelines: The City permits alcohol consumption in most parks between the hours of 8am and 8pm only. All alcohol must be consumed from cans or plastic cups. Bottled wine must be poured into disposable cups, however, the use of single use plastic cups is discouraged. All beaches are Alcohol Free Zones.

Alcohol will not be available for purchase during the event.

Smoking is prohibited in all parks.
