Frequently asked questions.
Where do I park?
Parking is all street parking, so the earlier you arrive, the closer you will be. We love our Bar Beach residents and ask that when you are finding a park, that you are mindful that you do not block driveways, laneways and private residences. There will be some road closures directly around the park, but otherwise, there will be plenty of parking.
We are currently updating our traffic management plan to include additional disability car parking for 2024. Details will be posted closer to our event.
What should I bring?
Besides your Christmas spirit, pack a picnic (or you can grab food from the food vans), bring your friends, chairs, blankets and everything you need to make yourselves comfortable (perhaps a lounge is going a bit far…).
What happens if it rains?
The show must go on! Unless it is a major downpour, we will be pressing on. Bring some wet weather ponchos and perhaps a small pop up beach tent. But seriously, if we need to cancel the event we will let you know on all our social media platforms!
Does it cost anything?
The event is FREE! There will be food, drinks, glow sticks and battery operated candles available for purchase throughout the evening. Some of our kids activities are free and others will go to supporting community partners and so will include a gold coin donation per family.
Are there toilets at the park?
Yes, there will be a number of temporary portaloos set up around Empire Park, in addition to the existing Empire Park amenities and across the road at Bar Beach Pavilion, where wheelchair accessible toilets can be located.
Can I bring my dog along?
You are more than welcome to bring along your dog, however please be mindful of others around you.
Your pet must be on a leash at all times and be comfortable with large crowds and fireworks.
Are we allowed to have alcohol? Are we allowed to smoke?
As per the Newcastle City Council guidelines:
The City permits alcohol consumption in most parks between the hours of 8am and 8pm only. All alcohol must be consumed from cans or plastic cups. Bottled wine must be poured into disposable cups, however, the use of single use plastic cups is discouraged.
All beaches are Alcohol Free Zones.
Alcohol will not be available for purchase during the event.
Smoking is prohibited in all parks.
